BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Vermont, on average, is one of the oldest states in the country. According to the Vermont Department of Health, the state has more people in their 60s than in their 20s. But a program for the last three years has aimed to keep people in the state in all stages of life.

“Vermont thrives when people choose to learn here, work here, and live here,” said Vermont Department of Labor Commissioner Kendal Smith.

The Green Mountain Job and Retention Program, announced UVM on Wednesday, is awarding $845,000 this year to graduates who chose to stay in the state.

The program offers $5,000 to Vermont college graduates who stay in the state and work full-time for two years after graduation - this is its third year.
