FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) -- A 19-year-old driver was arrested in Southwest Florida on Sunday after he was accused of driving over 100 mph on a bridge.

Santiago Carcamo Londono, 19, was caught driving 106 mph on the Edison Bridge in Fort Myers, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said.

After officers asked him to step out of the car, Londono said his mother told him to rush to take his passenger home.

Londono was arrested under Florida's new "super speeder" law, which makes driving at speeds over 100 mph an arrestable offense. It took effect on July 1.
