ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)---New York State lawmakers stood alongside state district attorneys at the New York State Capitol on Wednesday to highlight a bill that would allow more people to access mental health courts.
"People recognize that mental health courts are effective, they reduce recidivism, but just as importantly they are the appropriate place for some cases to be adjudicated," said Democratic Assemblymember, John McDonald.
He and Senator Michelle Hinchey sponsor a bill that would allow cases to be transferred to mental health courts in adjoining counties from counties that don’t have them.
