STATEWIDE -- On Tuesday, October 28, 78 schools across Maine participated in a mock election of this year's ballot. Plus, a third question pertaining to the upcoming 250th anniversary of our country.
According to the Secretary of State's Office, 29 of those schools reported results from 4,254 students.
Results from referendum Question 1 show just over 65% of students voted no.
On Question 2, nearly 80% of students voted yes.
The third question asked students, "Do you believe that the language in the Declaration of Independence, written 250 years ago, is still relevant today?" Over 70% of students voted yes.
According to Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, this was the first year they've held a mock election for a referendum election rather than a general election.
