(WABI) - The results of the 2025 Maine Student Mock Elections from dozens of Maine schools are in.

Seventy-eight schools across the state participated Tuesday, with 29 schools, making up more than 4,000 students, reporting their results on the two referendum questions.

Question 1 was defeated by students with about 65% voting no and 35% voting yes.

Question 2 was passed by students with almost 80% voting yes and 20% voting against it.

Alongside the two ballot questions, students also had their own mock referendum question, asking: “Do you believe that the language in the Declaration of Independence, written 250 years ago, is still relevant today?”

Almost 71% agreed and 29% said no.

Secretary of State Shenna Bellows says this is the first time students have voted in a mock referendum
