MAINE, USA — Thousands of students across Maine took part in the 2025 Maine Student Mock Election this week, casting votes on the same referendum questions that will appear on the statewide ballot next Tuesday.
Seventy-eight schools participated in the program organized by the Maine Department of the Secretary of State, with 29 reporting results from 4,254 student votes, according to a news release.
Question 1: Asks whether Maine should change its election laws to eliminate two days of absentee voting, ban requests by phone or through family members, end ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and people with disabilities, prohibit prepaid postage on return envelopes, limit the number of drop boxes, and require certain photo identification before voting.
