BELFAST, Maine (WABI) - Whether it is providing meals or shipping cleaning products overseas, the VFW in Belfast is one of many organizations serving community members, and they have a big event this weekend.

“All the things we’ve been involved with have been taking a little bit of our resources, and we are asking for help,” says Belfast VFW Commander Jim Roberts.

The VFW in Belfast is one of many vital organizations in Waldo County dedicated to helping local veterans and community members in need.

Roberts says they have seen a 30% increase in families visiting their food pantry since April.

“We’ve seen an average between 3 and 8 new clients every single time the pantry is open, so we are getting really nervous about if we have enough materials to feed everybody that comes through our
