BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Savannah Gardner started playing wheelchair basketball when she was 12-years-old.
“I have a very competitive spirit. I didn’t have a good outlet to show that and develop that until I found wheelchair basketball,” Gardner said.
Gardner first started playing on the team at Lakeshore Foundation. She then went to the University of Alabama, where she won a Women’s Wheelchair Basketball National Championship with the Crimson Tide in 2014-15.
But now, Gardner is focused on coaching.
“Coaching is really where I get my most joy because I get to see these kids find this game and rely on this game through their teen years. Those are really hard years for anybody, especially a kid with a disability.”
