NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) - With November SNAP Benefits still in question, Sweet Girlz Bakery & Cafe in North Myrtle Beach felt called to step up and help those in need.
Thousands of people in South Carolina are facing uncertainty as SNAP benefits are on hold for November. When the news reached Kari and Vicki Alvaro, co-owners of Sweet Girlz Bakery & Cafe, they sprang into action.
"We felt like there was a need for us," Kari said. "Maybe just try to step up as a community member, as a small business, and offer meals to folks that rely on it."
In a Facebook post, the Alvaros announced they would provide one free meal a week to those who present their SNAP card beginning on Nov. 1.
