NEW YORK (PIX11) – A coastal flood advisory is in effect Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
A storm bringing heavy rain and gusty winds up to 40 miles per hour is expected to hit the city starting at 1 p.m.
Flooding may occur near waterfront and shoreline areas, with waves reaching 5 to 7 feet during high tides along the oceanfront.
Minor structural damage is possible, according to the NWS.
Southern Queens and parts of Nassau County are expected to be most affected by rain, and areas near the waterfront and shoreline might experience flooding, according to the New York City Office of Emergency Management.
