NEEDHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Clarke County Sheriff says a coordinated effort among multiple law enforcement agencies may have prevented a deadly attack on religious communities across Alabama.
Jeremy Shoemaker faces several charges after investigators say they uncovered plans targeting synagogues in Alabama and nearby states .
Deputies in Choctaw County, working with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and the FBI, arrested Shoemaker earlier this week.
Clarke County Sheriff DeWayne Smith said investigators received a tip Monday afternoon about possible violent threats to synagogues.
“Now we’re talking about an incident that got prevented instead of talking about an incident that happened and what we could’ve done to prevent it,” Smith said.
