This weekend, when we fall back an hour on November 2, it’s a perfect reminder to check more than just your clocks — it’s time to make sure your home is safe.

The Anchorage Fire Department urges residents to change batteries and test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and to service home appliances like water heaters, furnaces, boilers, fireplaces, chimneys, and space heaters. Also, check ventilation systems and gas meters to prevent winter hazards.
