SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
According to the CDC, 45 percent of women and 33 percent of men in the commonwealth have experienced domestic violence.
On Wednesday, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office invited community members to the inaugural Domestic Violence Vigil.
“Everyone knows someone and if you think you don’t, you probably do,” Natalie Painter said.
Painter is the victim advocate with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the organizer of Scott County’s inaugural domestic violence vigil.
Painter says domestic violence awareness month is an opportunity to have conversations about the signs and provide resources.
