As a result of the government shutdown, SNAP benefits are set to expire on Nov. 1.

In Contra Costa and Solano counties, that could impact more than 98,000 households, causing some to re-think what they’re giving out to trick-or-treaters this Halloween.

Many members of the group Parent Voices Oakland, a group focusing on affordable childcare, will be impacted by the SNAP benefits expiring. Annie Banks, who is with the group, said parents are talking about doing things differently this Halloween.

“Finding ways to supplement what kids have on Halloween night, putting non-perishables out alongside the candy,” Banks said.
