NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven leadership is hosting public informational meetings to get feedback on their Mill River Park plan that aims to purchase English Station and the surrounding land that now sits as vacant industrial sites to turn it into a recreational hub, including the city's first outdoor swimming pool.
“It’s an eyesore on the neighborhood, it’s a polluted site," Mayor Justin Elicker said. "We have a pathway to convert that into something beautiful, and an incredible asset to the community, a public park and outdoor pool.”
English Station is currently owned by electric utility company United Illuminating, which is facing a lawsuit from Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Elicker expects the company to pay tens of millions of dollars to clean up
