Halloween is coming at a difficult time for many people this year.

With the federal government shutdown , SNAP benefits, formerly know as food stamps, and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children will be halted to millions of Americans.

However, some groups are trying to help families in need in a unique manner – trick-or-treating.

There is a push on social media to get people to give children nonperishable food items along with or instead of candy. The food will help families make ends meet and keep a child's stomach full.
