NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker announced Thursday plans to add five greenways to the Elm City by 2030.

The greenway initiative is anticipated to provide a 27-mile network of arterial routes, accommodating walkers, runners, and cyclists.

The five greenways include the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, Mill River Greenway Trail, Shoreline Greenway Trail, West River Greenway Trail, and the newly proposed Crosstown Greenway Trail, expected to connect four of the city’s five greenways.

So far, over $37 million in city, state, and federal funds were secured for the greenways, officials said.

According to officials, the greenways are currently in various stages of development.

This is the latest initiative to make the city more pedestrian and bike-friendly.
