RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A Randolph County man has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to producing child sex abuse material, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say the case began in November 2024, when the sheriff’s office Invictus Task Force received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Through that investigation, deputies identified James Anderson Mauney, 43, of Staley, as a suspect.
On Jan. 10, 2025, the task force executed a search warrant and arrested Mauney. He was taken to the Randolph County Detention Center, where a magistrate set his bond at $350,000. His first appearance in district court was scheduled for Jan. 13.
According to an update from the sheriff’s office, Mauney
