ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Union nurses gathered outside UPMC Altoona Wednesday evening to say, "enough is enough."
The nurses are demanding the Pittsburgh-based health care system make good on a promise to invest more in the local hospitals and nurse staffing and retention. This call comes during a year UPMC reported an operating income of nearly $350 million in the first half of the year alone.
"To the nurses here today and working in the hospital right now, we see you, we support you, and we will not let you stand alone until the UPMC executives hear us loud and clear, put people over profits, take care of corporate greed, and, by God, honor their promises to this great community of the city of Altoona," said Pat Miller, President of IAFF Local 299, another local union.
