ANN ARBOR – Michigan’s defense shifted momentum in the team’s favor early against Michigan State in last week’s 31-20 victory.
On the Spartans’ first drive, quarterback Aidan Chiles tried to rush for a first down, but Michigan safety Brandyn Hillman closed in from his safety spot and delivered a big hit to jar the ball free. Linebacker Jimmy Rolder quickly pounced on it before it went out of bounds, recovering a fumble inside MSU territory.
The takeaway was the 15 th Michigan has forced this season, which ranks 12 th nationally and second in the Big Ten. But there also have been opportunities for more, particularly from cornerback Jyaire Hill.
