When news broke that HomewardBound suffered a sudden financial shortfall, forcing its North Avenue emergency shelter to cease weekend operations, the community leaped into action.
The Bray Cares Foundation, which led the fundraising campaign, announced Wednesday that it raised the $150,000 necessary to resume full-time operations through the end of the year — within just a week.
The grassroots effort ensured that upwards of 150 unhoused locals will have a warm, safe reprieve from the coming winter months. According to a press release, the shelter will reopen for weekends starting Nov. 7.
