GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - The North Avene shelter will soon reopen seven days a week, but this will be for only a couple of months as the facility will be consolidated.
HomewardBound of the Grand Valley (HBGV) announced Thursday that the shelter is closing as HBGV has faced challenges regarding funding. Federal and state funding has been scarce, and donors have been overwhelmed by requests or moved their focus from shelter operations, according to HBGV.
However, the North Avenue shelter will reopen seven days a week starting Nov. 7 and until Jan. 5, 2026. HomewardBound will vacate the facility early next year and consolidate services into the Pathways Family Shelter on 29 Road.
