LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The University of Nebraska announced an extension to Husker Football Coach Matt Rhule’s contract on Thursday.
Shortly after Penn State dismissed long time head coach James Franklin, rumors swirled that Matt Rhule’s alma mater would come calling to replace Franklin. Rhule was a walk-on linebacker for Penn State and has close ties to Pat Kraft, Penn State’s athletic director.
But Rhule has officially signed a two-year contract extension to stay with Nebraska long-term.
Rhule’s original contract was slated to run through 2030 season, with his salary rising from $7.5 million this season to $12.5 million by the end of the contract. The restructured deal does not change Rhule’s base salary but does include salary escalators for College Football Playoff appearances.
