BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

Firefighters discovered three houses on fire in Birmingham Thursday morning.

They responded shortly after 6:30 a.m. to a call about smoke in the Evergreen neighborhood, according to Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

When crews arrived they found an abandoned house on fire in the 2200 block of 22nd Avenue North. Two other abandoned houses were also on fire.

It is not clear if anyone was inside although there may have been some animals inside. Animal control officers were called to the scene.

The fire was under control an hour later but the three houses appeared to be a total loss.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
