Scotland's First Minister has pledged his support to credit union members whose funeral care insurance was suddenly cancelled . 
John Swinney said the decision by insurance giant Maiden Life and broker C Mutual to cut cover for thousand of Scots would be challenged by finance minister Shona Robison. 
The FM was responding to a report in the Daily Record , which outlined how many elderly people now fear their families won’t be able to afford a dignified funeral, despite them paying into a Family Protection Plan for decades. 
Swinney, responding to a question by Glasgow MSP Paul Sweeney, said: “I am very sympathetic to the point that Mr Sweeney puts to me, and I will ask the finance secretary to engage directly with him.
