DENVER (KDVR) — For many people across the United States, the pumpkins are carved, the candy is in a bowl and the costumes are ready for Halloween, but despite being widely celebrated, most people won't get the day off.
That's because Oct. 31 is not considered a legal state or federal holiday.
The United States recognizes 12 holidays a year, which include Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Independence Day. During these holidays, many employees and students get the day off from work and school. However, Halloween isn't one of these holidays.
Although that doesn't necessarily mean Halloween isn't considered a holiday. USA.gov's website said "some holidays honor specific groups and events," which can include Flag Day and Halloween. It's just not a federal holiday.
