The Alberta government has missed a deadline from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) to release access to information requests that include the results of the province’s Alberta Next surveys.
Six surveys were launched over the summer as part of the wider Alberta Next consultation process that sought feedback on strategies the province could use to assert itself against Ottawa and potentially put voters in referendums.
Questions were centred on six issues: reforming federal transfers including equalization; establishing a new Alberta Pension Plan; pressuring Ottawa for more constitutional authority; forming a provincial police force; taking more control of immigration; and creating a provincial tax collection system.
