MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - Manatee County will make nearly $1 million available to help low-income homeowners with special needs repair or replace unsafe housing.
The funding comes through the county’s State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP) Housing Rehabilitation and Replacement Program, managed by the Community and Veterans Services Department.
Funds are awarded as a 0% interest deferred loan for a 20-year term with forgiveness at the end of the term. Payment is due in full should the homeowner sell, rent, lease or otherwise vacate the property before the end of the term.
The program focuses on home modifications and accessibility upgrades, including technological enhancements and devices that help homeowners remain independent and maintain homeownership.
