A Hamilton man who killed his dad with a crossbow will face life in prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

“I’m very sorry for what I did. I apologize to my family for the pain that I’ve done to them and I want to let them know that by the time I’m released, I’ll be a very different man. I will be a better man. I hope that they can forgive me for what I did,” Sukhraj Cheema-Singh told the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Hamilton on Sept. 26.

Cheema-Singh, 23, was charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with the consent of the Crown. The Crown and defence suggested he be ineligible for parole for 13 years from his arrest, a sentence Justice Paul Sweeny agreed was “fit and proper.”
