The IRS is providing tax relief for individuals and businesses affected by severe storms, flooding, and Typhoon Halong in the Lower Kuskokwim, Lower Yukon, and Northwest Arctic Boroughs.

Affected taxpayers now have until May 1, 2026, to file federal income and business tax returns, make tax payments, and contribute to IRAs or health savings accounts. The extension also covers estimated tax payments, payroll and excise tax deposits, and certain quarterly tax filings.

The IRS will automatically apply this relief for taxpayers in the disaster area. Those outside the area but affected should call 866-562-5227 to request assistance.

If you receive a penalty notice for a late filing or payment that falls within this period, contact the number on the notice to have the penalty abated.
