ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Albany County has worked, quietly behind the scenes, to reunite a young girl with her mother, after ICE deported her mother. The county kept the child out of a detention center and reunified the pair on Thursday in Colombia.
NEWS10 met the young girl on Wednesday and has more on the heartwarming reunification.
It was a tearful reunion for mother and daughter, both named Maria. It’s what Albany County Executive Dan McCoy, and many others, worked hard for.
“When I found out she's four I’m like, this is like dealing with my own grandchild, I couldn't imagine my daughter being away from her child for eight months. Any mother. That's what compelled us,” said McCoy.
McCoy said they stepped in after Maria was arrested by Rotterdam Police, charged with petty larceny. Sh
