HINTON, Iowa (KTIV) - There are three active lawsuits against the Hinton Community School District by parents who had children on the district’s wrestling team. A settlement has now been proposed for one of those lawsuits.
All of the lawsuits are over alleged hazing in the Hinton wrestling program, and the parents of one of the students have negotiated a $47,500 settlement.
KTIV is not naming the parents who filed the lawsuits to protect the students’ identities.
According to online court documents, the parents came to this agreement with the district’s insurance carrier, Employers Mutual Casualty Company, and believe the proposed settlement is “fair, reasonable, and in the best interest” of their child.
