CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - As the federal government shutdown continues, funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will run out on Nov. 1, meaning November’s food stamps will not be delivered.
In West Virginia, Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced the state would be donating up to $13 million, to be split between two food banks.
“Last week, we accelerated $1.1 million of moneys that were available, and this week we announced another $13 million. And that’s really critical,” Morrisey said in an interview with WSAZ on Thursday. “Just yesterday, we sent $5 million to the food banks in West Virginia. What they’re doing right now is they’re distributing resources and food from the banks to the food pantries all across the state. And we think that’s going to be helpful.”
