HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The city of Huntington and Cabell County got the legal green light to seek millions of dollars in compensation over damage caused by the distribution of opioids.
The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, ruled in favor of the city’s appeal of a landmark lawsuit against three major drug distributors.
Nearly four years ago, a federal judge in Charleston ruled in favor of three pharmaceutical companies that had been sued by the city and county.
The case against AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKesson Corporation was argued by Huntington attorney Paul Farrell Jr.
His brother, Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell, said the opioid epidemic’s impact on the community is among the reasons why he ran for mayor.
