CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Those living in Kanawha County with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance could soon pay out of pocket for ambulance services. This comes after a disagreement on how much service should cost.
Tom Susman, a spokesperson for the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, said, “It’s expensive to have a crew that’s trained, that’s licensed, to have all the equipment on the ambulance and there’s a cost to that. And everybody who uses that ambulance should pay for a portion of that cost.”
The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority is cancelling a contract with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield after failing to agree on a new one.
KCEAA said it billed the company more than $1 million last year, but only received about $400,000.
