PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The City of Portland will start enforcing a public camping ordinance on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The city said it will focus on connecting people to available shelter and supportive services, and people will likely not see a sharp increase in the number of citations in the coming weeks.
This comes after Mayor Keith Wilson paused enforcement in February while the city worked to increase the number of available of emergency shelter beds.
Starting Saturday, police may issue citations after “reasonable alternative shelter has been offered and declined,” the city said.
