ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- When it comes to caring for the animals rescued in abuse cases, local shelters can be quickly overwhelmed. One sheriff is making room to help with the overflow by using space at the county jail.
“This is something I've wanted to do for a couple of years. Just, you know, with all the bureaucratic hoops you got to jump through, it's taken us a little longer,” said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.
He explained that with the help of a local lawmaker he was able to finally secure the funding to build a kennel at the Albany County Correctional Facility. “We were fortunate enough, with the help of John McDonald, to get a $500,000 grant from the State Ag. and Markets. We would house the 16 dogs here at our kennel,” said Apple.
