BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - With the government still shut down, SNAP benefits are at risk for hundreds of thousands of people in Alabama. That’s why some families may be scrambling to do what they can to put food on the table.
Thousands of people in Birmingham could be impacted. Patrice Leonard receives SNAP benefits to help feed her five kids. One of them is Christian Savage - he’s the teen shot in the head while playing video games back in June 2022.
Thankfully, he’s doing better , but Leonard says if her SNAP benefits get cut off then that means she’ll have to find more ways to make ends meet.
To make matters worse, Leonard’s EBT benefits were stolen earlier this year after criminals hacked the system.
Despite everything that’s going on, she’s keeping the faith and hope
