CANANDAIGUA, NY — Ontario County nonprofit agencies, working with county and regional partners, have been meeting this week and are preparing to step in should federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits be delayed or interrupted after Nov. 1 because of the government shutdown.
In Ontario County, more than 5,000 households, representing nearly 9,000 individuals, rely on SNAP benefits to help meet basic food needs, according to information provided by Ontario Cares, which was formerly known as the Partnership for Ontario County.
Local food pantries anticipate more residents turning to these agencies for help.
