IOWA CITY — As Iowa football failed to generate turnovers on defense early in the season, assistant head coach Seth Wallace called the Hawkeyes ' defensive backs the “Noboyz” — a jab at their “Doughboyz” nickname.
But after a lull to begin the season, Iowa ’s defensive backs have been part of several splash plays. Over the last four games, the Hawkeyes’ secondary has played a hand in six takeaways.
During that span, Zach Lutmer has a fumble recovery and two interceptions, including a pick-six against Minnesota. Xavier Nwankpa nearly returned an interception for a touchdown the week before against Penn State. Deshaun Lee and TJ Hall both have an interception as well, including an incredible full-extension effort by Lee against the Nittany Lions .
