LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — A Nebraska nonprofit at the center of a scathing report from the State Auditor has publicly responded.

It was mid-October when Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley issued a report alleging 99% of all government grant funding received by the nonprofit Karen Society is being spent improperly.

“I don’t think I’ve ever put out a report where I’ve said 99% of the money’s being misspent,” Foley told 10/11 at the time. “I don’t think I’ve ever said that before. But in this case, I think it’s very true that they are misspending just about every dollar they touch.”

Foley’s report showed the same expense was billed multiple times, their record keeping is “sloppy” and they’ve failed to file necessary tax documents. Among Foley’s findings, the group’s Lincoln office titled in
