CORAL GABLES — For the first time since 2010, Jim Larrañaga will not be the one roaming near the bench when the Hurricanes men’s basketball team opens its season.
After Larrañaga’s abrupt retirement in the middle of last season — and the dreadful losing streak that followed — Miami will begin a new era of basketball with former Duke assistant coach Jai Lucas at the helm when UM opens its season against Jacksonville at 8 p.m. on Monday night.
“I’m excited about the season, excited about where we are, where we’re headed,” Lucas said. “We’ve had good practices. We had two really good scrimmages, got a chance to see some things, see different people out here together, see different lineups. And (I am) just excited to get ready for Monday.
