Amherstburg councillors have referred an incident of an abusive comment by an appointed town committee member to its integrity commissioner for investigation.

Council had planned to discuss the issue behind closed doors Monday, as is normal for personnel issues, but deputy mayor Chris Gibb felt the incident was grievous enough that it should be discussed in public.

His motion to move the discussion into council’s public session was seconded by Coun. Don McArthur and approved 4-3.

Mayor Michael Prue and councillors McArthur, Gibb and Linden Crain voted in favour of discussing the issue in public. Councillors Peter Courtney, Diane Pouget and Molly Allaire opposed.
