A hearing on embattled Suffolk Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins ’s motion to dismiss a federal indictment alleging he extorted a cannabis company will go forward in a matter of weeks, records show.

On Thursday, Judge Myong J. Joun set a Nov. 18 hearing date on the dismissal motion, legal filings show.

Tompkins was arrested in August on charges of allegedly extorting the cannabis company , under the threat he would revoke a partnership with his office that was central to the company’s licensing application.

Prosecutors allege that in addition to forcing a company official to sell him stock before the venture went public for $50,000, Tompkins subsequently demanded he be repaid after the value of his shares sank below his initial investment.
