PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A man will spend the next eight years in prison after pleading guilty to a shooting at officer during a police chase.
The Wallace Police Department says that this week in Pender County court Gary Devane pleaded guilty to two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, possession of a stolen firearm, and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm.
It was back on September 11, 2023, that police say that they were trying to stop Devane on his motorcycle for impaired driving.
While trying to stop him as he rode into Pender County, police say Devane fired several shots at officers who were chasing him. The shots forced other drivers off the road, which led the officers chasing Devane to stop and make sure those people were okay.
