(NewsNation) — For Juan Saro, a disabled veteran raising two young children, the looming suspension of federal food assistance is more than a political issue. It’s impacting nearly every part of his life.
Saro told "NewsNation Live" his family depends on the aid to get by between his compensation checks, and that losing benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will bring severe financial strain.
“I’ve been losing sleep at night, you know, stressed out just kind of coming up with a strategy, something to supplement when that money might run out, which is about mid-month," Saro said.
He said he has created a list of resources available in his area to visit if the benefits are suspended, but the uncertainty has triggered the post-traumatic stress disorder he suffers from
