SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- A federal jury has convicted an Indiana man of conspiring to steal more than $100,000 from an elderly South Dakota woman.

We first told you about the case in 2023. That's when 33-year-old Abdul Mohammed and at least one other person posed as law enforcement and convinced a Pennington County woman that she would be arrested if she didn't pay them. The victim mailed $10,000 in cash.

She then bought $95,000 worth of gold. When Mohammed went to pick it up, authorities arrested him.

This week, a federal jury convicted Mohammed of Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud. However, they found him not guilty of Wire Fraud. A sentencing date has not been set.

Mohammed also faces grand theft charges in Pennington County. That case is still making it through court.
