SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Dozens of people waited in the checkout lines at Kidtopia on Friday, possibly making their final purchases ever at the toy store that will be closing after 18 years.

The announcement comes on the 11th anniversary of the store’s Dawly Farm location. Owner Sheryl Nelson said it’s a bittersweet ending and that the business brought more to families than just toys.

“I wanted it to bring memories and make memories for families and not just be another store,” Nelson told KELOLAND News. “I wanted it to be the toy store that was a memory maker for kids and for families and to help bring them all together. It's more than just a store, it should be magical. It should be fun, you know, it should be a way to bring families closer together.”
