Firefighters in Newark responded to Rutgers University Thursday afternoon after a reported steam pipe leak injured three employees inside a campus building.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, at approximately 1:37 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 101 Warren Street, the location of Smith Hall, following reports of a steam pipe leak in the building’s basement.
Three Rutgers University employees sustained minor burns and were evaluated by EMS at the scene.
All three declined further medical treatment and chose to remain on-site.
No additional injuries were reported.
The steam pipe leak is currently being repaired by Rutgers University staff, and the incident remains under review.
