The Mayor of Conception Bay South is encouraging homeowners to get their homes tested for radon after a report released by Take Action on Radon showed that 29 per cent of the 253 homes previously tested in CBS had levels above the Canadian guideline.
Radon is a naturally occurring, colourless, odourless gas that can enter homes through the ground.
High levels of exposure can lead to lung cancer, according to Health Canada.
Mayor Darrin Bent says of the 253 homes tested in the last two years, nearly one in three had levels higher than Health Canada’s acceptable limits.
